Unhoused population on Long Island increased 32%

According to a report from the New York State Comptroller’s Office, the homeless population has increased by 32% from 2022 to 2024 on Long Island, to a total of 4,002 individuals. Across the State, nearly 32% of the population is under 18 years of age. Homelessness disproportionately impacts the Latino and Black communities, driven by structural barriers to homeownership and access to affordable housing.
